Em K. Maloney, Ph.D.

I am an applied social scientist with expertise in quantitative and computational methods, currently seeking roles in policy research and analysis. I hold a Ph.D. in sociology from Duke, where I studied social identity and status. Since then, I’ve worked across sectors: at the New York Public Library, I designed and fielded the first system-wide patron survey in over a decade using multi-stage cluster sampling; at Meta, I worked as a quantitative UX Researcher using experimental and observational methods to inform product decisions for millions of users. I’m drawn to organizations where research shapes decisions that affect people’s lives. In my free time, I like to take my dog for walks around Durham, read (currently: Andersonville by MacKinlay Kantor), and watch sports (my main teams are: Atlanta Dream (WNBA), NY/NJ Gotham (NWSL), and Chelsea (WSL)).
